MOOD BOARD: Crystal Clear Waters

Friday, April 25, 2014

The sun is shining. All of my winter clothes are carefully tucked away in my spare closet. And now I'm left dreaming of getting comfortable in a little cabana tucked away by crystal clear waters, preferably miles away from shrieking children building sand castles and splashing in the waves.

What is inspiring you right now?

Weekend at St. Simon's

Monday, August 5, 2013

Even though St. Simon's does not have the white sandy beaches and clear(er) water of the Gulf, only having to drive two hours and not having to deal with hoards of drunk frat boys make it a winner in my book. It's the perfect place to go to get away and unwind.

My daily schedule this weekend was as follows: wake up, walk on the beach, lay by the pool, go to lunch, nap, lay by the pool, dinner, walk on the beach, get ice cream, watch the Braves continue on their winning streak. It was just what I needed to mentally prepare to go back to school.

This time we decided to try new restaurants. I highly recommend Skipper's Fish Camp in Darien. It may be a farther drive, but it's on the water, away from the crowds and has the best seafood. We also went to Southern Soul BBQ, which was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It's in an old gas station on the traffic circle and if you aren't paying attention, you will miss it.

Every time I leave the island, I spend too much time looking for the perfect beach house to rent next time. How perfect are these houses on the water?

And now for the pictures...

How was your weekend?

I'm off to the beach this afternoon.
On the agenda:
pool lounging, beach walking and seafood eating.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
Except that I am 100% going to go on a kayak tour of the island
next time I'm in St. Simon's.

Next week be on the look out for lots of food reviews.
That's what vacations are all about, right?
Or, as I like to call them, FOODcations.

{One of these days I will tell you about the ultimate foodcation
that was Spring Break 2013 NYC.}

1//2//3//4//5

I was a working girl this summer,
which was fine because you can only watch
daytime television and lay by the pool so long
before getting cabin fever.

The problem was the lack of time for a proper vacation.
I started my internship at the Chamber of Commerce
less than 48 hours after I arrived home from school.
Which mean that I lived out of my suitcase for at least a week.

Now that my internship is drawing to a close next Wednesday,
my parents and I are getting our beach vacation.
Keep your fingers crossed that this tropical storm dissipates
because right now they think it is going to be hitting the east coast
next weekend, right when I want to catch a few rays at St. Simon's Island,
a sleepy barrier island community that is my favorite to visit.

My must haves for next weekend:
+the maxi dress I bought earlier this summer
+Essie polish in Fuji
+A pool read: Grace's biography will be perfect
+Coola face sunscreen
+Warby Parker sunglasses
(In a perfect world. I'll probably stick with my trusty Target shades.)
+Neutral sandals

Right now I'm en route to Atlanta to watch the Braves play the Cardinals.
I've never wanted them to win a game so much.
Have a fun weekend!

We Took the Road Less Traveled

We have made it to the end of another work week friends.
Who am I kidding? I'm only work half days on Thursdays and Fridays
so what do I know about truly working for the weekend?

I'm headed to the beach Saturday with Danielle.
Day trips to the beach are a perk of being home.
I could drive 2 hours to Memphis...or the coast.
Is it really that hard of a decision? I think not.
It's mainly just a trade off between BBQ and seafood.

As you sit behind your desk thinking of all the better things you
could be doing, here are a few things to look at.
{Mainly to make YOU look productive. You're welcome.}

1. My favorite apartment tour: Danielle Moss from The Everygirl
2. This video of giraffes jumping into a pool. Isn't the animation spot on?
3. Jenny Highsmith's tips on meeting new people
4. Weekend in Paris photos {le sigh}
{first heard on Milkbone commercial. No shame.}
6. History of Typefaces infographic
7. And in case any one cares...Kim K. named her baby North West
Maybe they can nickname her "Compass?"
