In 2014, I promise to not consider Buzzfeed my daily reading. I promise not to watch Property Brothers for five hours at a time and I promise not to start reading a book just to put it down three months later because I forgot the plot.
2014 will be the year of the Kindle, taking weekly trips to the library and reading the book before watching the movie. It will be a year of adventure, both in person and in the pages. It will be a year of novels and memoirs and historical fiction. It will be a year of loosing track of time, of dog-earing pages and highlighting my favorite passages.
Here is a selection of books on my list for 2014. Feel free to add your favorites!
1. The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
2.The Group by Mary McCarthy
3. Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed
4. Catherine the Great by Robert K. Massie
5. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
6. Looking for Alaska by John Green

I just did the 24 in 2014 book challenge. You should join the link up party. I couldn't come up with 24 books. Only 10 though. Have you read Eat Pray Love? I just finished that and it was good.
Great list! I definitely need to read more. I have an iPad but all I use it for before bed it to read blogs and do crosswords. Not that that's a bad thing, but it would be nice to read a book before bed instead. I've heard about Wild before and I think I may have to get it.
Happy New Year
I just did a huge roundup of the books I read in 2013 and the ones that really stood out to me were the books from the early 20th century. If you have not I highly recommend reading a book by Pearl S Buck she was a very gifted writer.
Ahhh this is such a fantastic idea. I love reading just have no time for it with college!

looking for alaska is my favorite book!!
I've read 'wild' and loved it! If you haven't read it yet, I would recommend 'the perks of being a wallflower'...I loved that one too! If you like travel books, 'wanderlust' was good as well, but a little lighter of a read than 'wild'.
I also agree with Jessica about Wanderlust--loved that book! I've read parts of Looking for Alaska, but I haven't read the others on your list! Can't wait to check them out :) I hope you're having a great start to 2014!
I really liked wild and I LOVED Looking for Alaska. (Personally it's still my favorite john green book :]]]) Good luck with your reading!!!
I am looking for books to add to my "to-read in 2014" and these are great suggestions. Thank you for sharing!
Wild looks so good. I got so many books I can't wait to read them all this year. Can't wait for you to share how you liked or disliked these in the future!

Eleanor & Park and Looking for Alaska are so, so good!
I am also feeling motivated to read more this year and these are some great suggestions! I've read both Wild and Devil in the White City and loved them both! Some of my favorites are The Paris Wife and Gone Girl and then most recently I've read Crazy Rich Asians (a really fun read!) and The Tea Rose (a mix of romance and mystery-really entertaining!) Happy New Year! :)
These books look so good! I'm adding a few of them to my own reading list for the year.
Wild was good. I also enjoyed Edenbrooke and Blackmoore by Julianne Donaldson,
I still haven't read Perks of Being a Wallflower! Saw the movie, which was quirky and wonderful. Do you remember who the author of Wanderlust is?
I will definitely link up with this! My list has now almost grown to 24, just a few more to go :) And no, I haven't read Eat Pray Love. I wasn't a fan of the movie but I have heard WONDERFUL things about the book!
I love your pledge! It was very eloquent :) It looks like you have a great start up list and I'm so glad you're joining in! Love your blog-will be following along. Happy 2014, Jess!
Elisabeth eaves :)
I take my kindle everywhere and it makes reading so much more convenient. Let me know what you think of Wild if you get it! It seems to be the most popular one on my list :)
Glad to give you a few ideas!
The Paris Wife was so good, have you read Z for Zelda? It's similar and just as good. Don't even get me started on Gone Girl...I read it in almost one sitting. I was on a bus from Arkansas to Chicago and hardly knew where the time went while reading it. So suspenseful and captivating!
I've just gotten in to John Green and I wish I would have started a lot sooner!
I will definitely add Wanderlust to the list then! Happy new year to you too!
Thanks for organizing it! Now I have a little accountability group :)
I will definitely have to check those out!
Love it! I've heard of a few of these. I started Wild over the summer, but never finished it! I have read Looking for Alaska though, and have since come to love all of John Green's books. I'm excited to see Part 2 :) Happy New Year!

I've read The Devil in the White City, Catherine the Great, and Looking for Alaska, and I recommend all of them! Great choices!!
I'm in the middle of Devil in the White City now and I'm obsessed...can't put it down. Can't wait to move onto the others.
