A few weeks ago I had the privilege of giving the review
at my mom's literary guild meeting.
{Differences between a literary guild and a book club:
constitution, president, gavel; it's official.}
I've gone a few times before, and really enjoyed it.
It's a no-commitment kind of deal.
Someone else reviews a book that they've read
and you can decided if it's worth your time
to read or not.
I was the youngest person in attendance by about 40 years.
That's the way I like it; I feel like I have an old soul.
The big scuttlebutt at this meeting was the pros and cons
of notifying members of upcoming meetings via email.
Most of the members are retired school teachers
and apparently many of them delete their email inbox
without even reading the messages.
{I could not even understand this because I check my email every hour on the hour.}
It was a pretty heated argument and at a few
points the president almost lost control of the conversation.
I reviewed "The Paris Wife" by Paula McLain
{You can read a few of my favorite quotes from the book here.}
It's one of my favorite books
that follows the rise and fall of Earnest Hemingway's first
marriage to Hadley Richardson.
If you haven't read it, I suggest getting a copy right away.
It will make a perfect Christmas break read or gift for
your travel-loving friends.
Are any of you in book clubs? Thoughts?

I love music. Of all kinds. But my favorite would be the kind where you sit on your front porch with a mason jar of sweet tea and just listen. And there should be banjos. Lots of banjos. And if you want to throw a little harmonica in there, well I'm all right with that too. September saw the much anticipated release
of two of my favorite bands.
Along with the rest of the world,
I'm in love with Mumford & Sons
and the Avett Brothers of course.
Love those guys.
After madly waiting for The Carpenter and Babel
to download on my computer
(we have extremely slow internet at school)
they are all that have been playing on rotation
for the past two weeks.
And when Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Mumford
were on SNL the other Saturday?
My heart was fluttering like a school girl.
Can you think of a better combination of men?
Because I sure can't.
In case you live under a muscial rock,
here are a few songs to catch you back up to speed.
It rains a lot where we go to school- especially in the fall and the spring. This is, I feel, where one's college experience shows.
And you thought I was joking about the rain... (iPhone picture. Sorry!)
You can always spot the freshman during the first big rain of the semester- they're the ones wearing flip-flops while it's absolutely pouring. Rookie mistake. Our own Emily made this exact mistake once and fell down an entire flight of wet stairs in front of about 90% of the student population (I'm definitely not exaggerating). The best way to avoid looking like a novice is your trusty pair of rain boots. My personal preference? Hunter Wellingtons, of course. As the same brand worn by Princess Di and countless other celebs, my pair and I have traveled all across Europe and the United States and are still holding up just fine.
On the red carpet in Cannes with my Hunters. And Princess Di with hers. We're basically twins.
I would suggest buying a slightly larger size so you can wear them with warm socks in the winter. I went with the matte black for my first pair, but for my second, I couldn't say no to some of these options:
Sigh. Christmas?
All of those boots can be found here. What's your favorite brand of rain boots?
