6 Habits of a Coffee Lover

You measure coffee in pots, not cups. A Keurig is not economically practical for your coffee needs and the phrase "single serving" should not be limited to 12 ounces of liquid energy.

Picking your favorite drink is near impossible. In the morning, you may crave iced coffee or an Americano, but by lunchtime and your afternoon pick-me-up a latte may be more of your taste. And coffee with desert is not even a question. There is no better pairing.

Your kitchen counter is cluttered with coffee makers. Traditional, french press, pour over, chemex, kettles you name it you have it and they are proudly lining your kitchen counters. Perhaps you might go so far as to say that they are practical decorative artwork for your kitchen.

You are on a first name basis with baristas. Especially if you study or work from a coffeeshop on a regular basis, you will quickly become familiar (or even friends) with the baristas working around that time. Bonus points if they memorize your drink order or take an extra few moments creating insta-worthy latte art.

An entire cabinet is dedicated to your collection of mugs and travel tumblers. Some collect purses, for some it's shoes, but for you it's mugs. You can't resist. Plus, you need multiple travel mugs on the off-chance you accidentaly leave one at work.

Speaking of mugs, they are a representation of all of the places you have been to. Who needs magnets, t-shirts, pens or throw blankets to remind them of vacations past? You can also justify the purchase since you will use them on a daily basis. Plus, they are a fun conversation starter when you have people over.

If you enjoyed this list, you will love my "What your Starbucks drink says about you" list. (shameless plug)

Let's Calm Down With the Pumpkin-Spice Everything

Thursday, September 4, 2014

When it is so hot you must order your PSL iced, then you have a problem. Social media has been out of control with fall drinks lately. I said it last September, and I'll say it again: Fall doesn't start until September 22. Let's enjoy summer because you know that when the snowpocolypse returns, you will be wishing you could wear your favorite shorts and drink your favorite flavored-tea-lemonade drink. And while fall is my favorite season, I will save that post and my favorite flavored latte until the appropriate time dictated by whoever/whatever set that date. There will be no pumpkin-spice candles, no carmel-apple scentsy and no "Great Pumpkin, Charlie-Brown" for this girl until then.

To top off my "it's still summer even if society says you must pack away your white jeans" tangent, I now live in a state of almost perpetual summer. Which is unfortunate since I absolutely love wearing boots and scarves and pea coats. I have no idea how to dress of fall/winter in Florida. Do you forget what time of the month it is and continue to wear shorts and sandals? At least that would cut down on the amount of times you have to rotate the clothes in your closet.

In conclusion, just because Labor Day has passed and football season is upon us, remember that it is still summer and don't wish away your time from season to season because before you know it 2015 will be here.

Do you have an opinion on this issue or is it just me?

The Creative Initiative No. 2: What did you do today?

Thursday, November 14, 2013

The theme this week is "What did you do today?" And if you are new around here, you know that I am in love with coffee and lattes (read more here.) This week I branched away from my americano or nonfat cafe au lait, and splurged on a gingerbread latte. If you haven't tried it yet, you must. And I can never get over how much I love the red cups. They are the true signal that it's acceptable to being playing Christmas music and getting in the holiday spirit (Thanksgiving included.)

And instead of photographing my red cup in my hand, I decided to illustrate it for this week's Creative Initiative. Besides drinking coffee en mass, I haven't done much other than going to class and working.

So what is The Creative Initiative, you may ask?

This series is a sketchbook challenge (obviously I am terrible with pen & paper, so I am doing my drawings on Illustrator.) Every week we will introduce a new prompt and you will have until the following Tuesday to post whatever it is you made. You will have a week of knowing and thinking about the prompt (and brainstorming and sketching and practicing etc.) before you post your artwork on the following Thursday! You can view my first post here

Here are the rules:

1. Create something in your sketchbook based on this weeks prompt.

2. Post about your artistic endeavor on your blog and link-it-up to this post.

3. Comment on other bloggers posts! The prompts leave a lot of room to use your imagination and we should all support and encourage each other and we explore!

So there you have it! Week 2 in underway! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Next week's prompt is: Get outdoors.
