A (Semi-Sarcastic) Lifestyle Blogging Guide

There are hundreds of posts on the Internet with a list of tools you will need to join the ranks of bloggers all over the world. Although a DSLR, Photoshop, an editorial calendar, and a plethora of social media apps are all well and good, for whatever reason the following items are game changers if you want to take your blog to the next level.

Macbook

It's not that bloggers are anti-PC, it's jus that Mackbooks look so much better in photographs. And they sync perfectly with all of your other iDevices.

Wordpress

This one is fairly serious if you want more flexibility in your design, SEO plug-ins and would like to own your own content. As you can see from my URL, I have not made the switch

Starbucks gold card

Go ahead and invest in the Starbucks gold card. You will want to have a venti Starbucks drink in every Instagram you post so you might as well receive all of the benefits and free drinks.

Every shade of Essie and/or OPI nail polish known to womankind

Your nails must look their best holding previous Starbucks cup. Personally, Essie polish does not last long enough without chipping, but maybe that is part of their strategy to make you buy more. My current favorite OPI colors: bubble bath and the thrill of brazil.

An endless supply of peonies

I'll give everyone this one. Because fresh flowers make a whole space better.

Weekends not filled with Netflix marathons

Because constantly talking about your queue and taking photos of you on your couch is what everyone else does. They turn to lifestyle bloggers for inspiration of the things they should be doing on the weekends.

A constant companion to take your photos (or a tripod)

Or a selfie stick. Which I got for my birthday. #noshameinmygame If selfie sticks aren't your thing, then appoint one of your friends as blog picture taker. Their skills must include: shooting in manual mode, making your driveway/backyard look fabulous and a copious amount of patience.

The peonies are definitely what I think my blog was missing. Also, the whole "friend to take photos" although I tried once to do a fashion post and went outside with the tripod and realised I live in an apartment complex and everyone was looking at me funny!!

So funny! I've been feeling pretty cynical about blogging lately, so this is both just what I need and somehow strangely encouraging haha.

Definitely a Macbook, being saving for a while to get one. It's like a blogger's right of passage! haha loved this post :)

Haha, I love, love, love this! I've been on board with Macbooks and I just made the switch to WP, which definitely meant no Netfilx that weekend when that happened! Thanks so much for sharing–this was such a fun post!

Haha oh goodness. It is almost scary how accurate this is about bloggers. I am definitely guilty of being a Starbucks gold member and I have a Macbook. Although, I had a Macbook before I became a blogger, so... ;)

YES, Jess!!! this list is spot on. I hit blogger euphoria when my starbucks gold card arrived in the mail. I drink iced coffee like it's going out of style. when you're practically working two jobs, there is never enough caffeine. all I need is a mac book to feel complete! :) xo - chels @ LLinaBC.com

Nailed it!

Oh my goodness, I think we have all tried and failed at the whole tripod business. Especially those of use who live in apartments or with close neighbors. It just doesn't happen.

Netflix is my best friend, especially during the week and Sunday afternoons. I highly recommend selfie sticks! I joked about not getting one for Christmas and my mom sort of took me seriously and got me one for my birthday!

I got one after graduation and I will never go back to a PC, plus they are made to last almost double the amount of time, plus now that I am not carting it around to class and the library it won't get beat up as much :)

so glad you enjoyed it! there is a starbucks right by my office and it's pretty dangerous and i'm always taking advantage of the bonus start opportunities with the gold card ;)

That was the tone I was trying to get across. Because I fit about half of these stereotypes and I think we all do to some extend. I absolutely love the blogging community and the friends I've made through it, but sometimes it can come off as very unrealistic and unachievable in everyday life.

oh my goodness i've read the blogger to wp horror stories and i've been paranoid to make the switch haha! so glad you enjoyed it! TBH i started righting a serious post about what tools i use when blogging but then it just took a turn for the humorous and i just went with it :)

there is a starbucks right by my office so that's where i'm at most lunch breaks and of course i'm going to take advantage of their discounts and rewards :) and LOLZ to being a mac convert before becoming a blogger. it's such a difference and i'll never make the switch back.

Jess said...

haha thanks chelsea! we can all find ourselves guilty of at least one of these :)

glad you were able to relate! it started out as a serious post as i was writing it last night and then just took a turn for the humorous and i went with it :)

Muahaha. Nice.
I definitely understand ;)
I haven't made the switch to Wordpress either, but I'd really like to, through Bluehost. I'm excited to make that transition soon!
But, sorry world, I shall stick to my PC :)
